Hydroxychloroquine

Summary

Hydroxychloroquine, sold under the brand name Plaquenil among others, is a medication used to prevent and treat malaria in areas where malaria remains sensitive to chloroquine.

Hydroxychloroquine is effective against SARS-CoV-2 but results indicate that it is most effective only at the beginning stages of infection and for prevention.  It’s effectiveness rapidly falls off past early infection stages.  Like all drug treatments, it requires being part of a drug cocktail since, by itself, it does nothing to stop COVID-19.

Ivermectin appears to have greater utility since it has effect throughout all stages of infection and not just the beginning.
